About Piano Teachers Connect

Piano Teachers Connect represents a group of some of the best piano teachers in the UK, USA, Canada, and France.

Here’s how it works:

  • Finding your preferred location: We have piano teachers located in virtually every part of our cities' greater metro areas. Some of our piano teachers offer piano lessons in students’ homes, while other piano teachers offer piano lessons in their home teaching studios, or in our other teaching studios which are not home-based. We also offer piano lessons over Skype.

  • Matching your musical interests: Each of our piano teachers comes from a slightly different musical background, and has followed a different focus in their career as a professional pianist and piano teacher. We listen carefully to the needs of our piano students, asking them about their musical interests, previous experience on the piano, aspirations in music, learning style, and practical requirements, in order to carefully match them with their ideal piano teacher.

  • Trying it out: All of our new piano students start off with one trial piano lesson, to meet their piano teacher and get a sense of their piano teacher’s personality and approach to piano lessons.

  • Continuing weekly: After their initial piano lesson, if the students feel they have found the right piano teacher for them, they can continue on with regular, weekly piano lessons. Choosing a piano teacher is a delicate matter, and occasionally our students will have trial piano lessons with a couple of our piano teachers before settling into a regular piano lesson schedule.

Meet our piano teachers

Highly trained piano teachers

All of our piano teachers have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor of Music degree - many have a Master of Music degree, and other specialised piano performance and teaching qualifications.

Highly experienced piano teachers

All of our piano teachers not only have ample experience as piano teachers, but also as performers, composers, and recording artists.

Piano teachers specialising in your area of interest

Each of our piano teachers has a unique area of expertise. We have jazz piano teachers, classical piano teachers, and piano teachers who specialise in rock, pop, and other contemporary music styles. We have piano teachers who specialise in working with children and adult beginners, and piano teachers who are best suited to highly advanced piano students.

Piano Teachers Connect strives to be more than an elite and diverse group of piano teachers. We also want to help build a community of musicians - piano teachers and piano students - who share common passions for the piano and are engaged in lifelong learning.
— Jonah Cristall-Clarke, Director

Our piano teachers are carefully screened and selected

Our piano teachers are hand-picked based on their qualifications, experience, and a thorough interview. We make sure that our piano teachers have organised and well-constructed methods for teaching piano lessons, with proven success rates. We visit all of our piano teachers’ home teaching studios to ensure that they are clean, presentable, well-equipped, and inspiring atmospheres for learning to play the piano. After the hiring process, we follow our piano teachers’ performance through the feedback we receive from their piano students, and the progress their piano students make between each of our student piano recitals.

We are very proud of our talented team of piano teachers, and want nothing more than to share their knowledge and expertise with you!

Why choose our piano teachers?

Piano lessons are an investment of time, money, and energy, and - with the right teacher - they can be a rewarding life experience well worth the investment.

Choosing a piano teacher is an important decision

  • The right piano teacher can change your life by helping you discover a wonderful outlet for creativity, self-expression, and enjoyment.
  • The wrong piano teacher can leave you discouraged, perhaps even with a lasting distaste for music and the piano.

Our piano teachers will:

  • Inspire you to grow as a pianist and as a musician.
  • Explain ideas clearly and in an organized manner, and offer a systematic approach to practising and applying these ideas to the piano.
  • Be interested in your needs. They will be flexible and good listeners, eager to find an individual approach to piano lessons that’s right for you.
  • Make your piano lessons fun and enjoyable, with the appropriate amount of challenge - music should not be a difficult chore, and should never make you feel bad about yourself.

We will match you with a piano teacher who:

  • Works well with your personality and learning style.
  • Shares similar musical interests with you.
  • Has professional experience in the piano styles and aspects of music that interest you.
  • Has an infectious enthusiasm for music and the piano.

Our Approach to Piano Lessons

Piano Teachers Connect believes that the best approach to piano lessons focuses on enjoyment and creativity.

Our Approach to Piano Lessons

Piano Teachers Connect believes that the best approach to piano lessons focuses on enjoyment and creativity.

Our approach to piano lessons

Music is a form of communication

Our piano teachers offer you a way to express your emotions and experiences - to convey feelings that are difficult to put into words.

Music is a way of connecting

It can bring friends closer together while singing around a campfire. It can place musicians from different countries and walks of life on the same stage to perform. Music allows us to relate to and understand one another.

Music makes us happy

It soothes us when we’re sad. It lifts us up when we want to celebrate. Within seconds it can change our mood completely. Creating music can be one of the most enjoyable activities in life.

Too often music is turned into an academic exercise. Staying in touch with what music is all about is crucial when we are learning to play the piano. Music theory, reading music notation, technique, and analysis are all useful, but they are a means to an end.

Getting the greatest possible enjoyment and fulfillment out of playing the piano: this is the final goal.

Piano Teachers Connect offers piano lessons that encourage having fun and expressing yourself through playing the piano. Our piano teachers create an atmosphere where learning and development will thrive, and your piano playing can quickly improve. Our piano teachers can help you get the most out of your piano lessons, and the adventure of playing the piano.

Our piano teachers know the key to enjoyment and creativity in piano lessons.

Piano Teachers Connect encourages you to:

  • Choose your own repertoire - music that’s meaningful to you.
  • Listen to music and learn to play the music you love.
  • Consider the emotional impact of the music you’re playing - breathing life into the piano keys.
  • Develop your ears, and explore improvisation and composition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about our piano lessons and piano teachers.

Here are a few answers to questions we are sometimes asked.

Can't find the answer you're looking for? Don't hesitate to contact us!

How much do piano lessons cost?

Prices for piano lessons are based on the location and duration of the lessons. Please visit our page on Piano Lessons Prices to find the prices relevant to you.

Are there any registration fees, agency fees, or hidden costs?

There are no registration fees or additional costs for lessons of any kind. Students may be expected to purchase sheet music and materials for lessons as needed, and based on their individual course of study and recommendations from their piano teacher. Students are also expected to have access to a suitable piano or digital piano for practise during the week.

Am I tied into a contract? Do I have to commit to a block of piano lessons upfront?

No on both counts. Our students start by paying for just one lesson, to meet their teacher before deciding whether to continue on a weekly basis. After the first lesson payments are on a monthly basis, however our students may discontinue lessons at any time by giving 7 days’ notice before their next lesson - we will refund any unused lessons credits in full.

How do I pay for my piano lessons?

We accept payments either by online payment by credit/debit card, bank transfer, and/or PayPal (bank transfers and PayPal payments are only available for certain locations, so please contact us for more details).

Can I cancel or reschedule lessons when I am away on holiday?

Yes. Lessons can be cancelled without charge (or for a refund or lesson credit) by providing at least 7 days’ advance notice. Lessons can be rescheduled to another day/time within the same week by providing at least 24 hours’ advance notice.

Where do the piano lessons take place?

Our piano lessons generally take place in your own home or in one of our piano teachers’ home teaching studios. We also have some teaching studios that are not based in our teachers’ homes. If you have another location in mind, such as your workplace or your own studio space, we are happy to teach you there.

When do piano lessons take place? Do you offer piano lessons in the evenings or on weekends?

We offer piano lessons 7 days of the week, morning through evening. We schedule lesson times around our students’ availabilities. Let us know when you are available, and we will find a day and time that works for you.

Can I take piano lessons on a fortnightly or ad hoc basis?

We firmly believe that weekly lessons are the ideal schedule for learning piano. Our primary concern is for our students’ success, and we ask our students to make a weekly commitment to lessons as much as possible.

How long are the lessons?

We offer half-hour, 45-minute, and hour-long weekly lessons. We recommend hour-long lessons to all adult students and half-hour lessons to children under age 8.

How often are the lessons?

Lessons take place once per week.

Do I need to buy a piano?

Yes. We recommend that students have a piano or digital piano at home before beginning lessons. Visit our shop to view some great options. If you are worried about making the investment in purchasing a piano right away, it is possible to rent a piano or to practise at a piano practise studio in the beginning.

Should I buy a real acoustic piano or a digital piano/keyboard?

We always recommend purchasing a real acoustic upright or grand piano if possible. If space or neighbours prohibit this, a digital piano will be suitable. Digital pianos should have the full 88-key keyboard and a weighted action (sometimes called hammer action).

What approach/method do you use for piano lessons?

Our teachers use a student-driven approach. This means that our piano lessons are different for each student, based on the student’s personality, learning style, musical interests, strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations in music. Our teachers also each have their own teaching techniques and methods, which they apply based on the student. To find out more, try a lesson with one of our teachers and speak with them directly about the approach and course of study they would recommend for you.

Do you offer Suzuki piano lessons?

Although this is not our focus, we have a few piano teachers offering piano lessons using the Suzuki method. Please contact us for more information.

Can I take exams?

Yes. Our piano teachers have great approaches and proven track-records for preparing students for exams, and stay up to date with the exam syllabi. Let us know which exam you are interested in taking (ABRSM, Trinity, Jazz, Rockschool, etc) and we will match you with the best possible piano teacher.

How long does it take to learn to play piano?

Learning piano is a life-long process - even our piano teachers are still learning and making new discoveries. The speed of your progress will depend largely on the time you invest in practising during the week between your lessons. Typically it can take up to 6 months or a year to become comfortable on the piano, and to feel ready to perform a short piece for family or friends.

How do I choose a piano teacher?

It’s important to have the right piano teacher for you, and we will work with you to select the best possible piano teacher based on your musical interests, current level and aspirations in music, personality and learning style, location, and availability.

At what age can a child begin piano lessons?

This depends on the child. We have students as young as age 3. For students under age 6, we recommend trying a lesson to have one of our teachers assess whether the student is ready for weekly private piano lessons. If they have difficulty maintaining focus or do not show a keen interest, it may be best to wait a year or two and try again.

Am I too old to learn the piano?

No. We have beginner students of all ages, including some who are spending their retirement discovering the joys of playing piano and music-making. Our piano teachers have wonderful approaches for teaching adult beginners, and we have seen many adult students grow to create beautiful music on the piano.

Can I contact the teacher directly to book a lesson?

We are happy to arrange your first lesson for you, matching you with a teacher who best fits your musical interests, aspirations, learning style, location, and availability. We are not able to provide our teachers’ full names or contact details until you have registered with our school and are ready to go ahead with your first lesson.

Can I purchase piano lessons as a gift?

Yes, piano lessons make a wonderful gift! Visit our shop to purchase a gift voucher, which the recipient may redeem at their convenience.

How do I get started?

The first step is to try a lesson with one of our piano teachers - there is no commitment whatsoever. Visit our Contact Page or Book Now to start your adventure in learning to play the piano.

Piano Lessons Schedule and Structure

Part of the great thing about taking piano lessons is adding some structure to your learning. Here are our main guidelines for successful piano lessons.

Piano Lessons Schedule and Structure

Part of the great thing about taking piano lessons is adding some structure to your learning. Here are our main guidelines for successful piano lessons.

Piano Teachers Connect's schedule, structure, and policies for piano lessons

  • We offer private piano lessons, taking place in your home, or in our teaching studios.
  • Piano lessons take place on a weekly basis.
  • Piano lessons generally last one hour for adults and children above the age of 7.
  • Piano lessons generally last 30 minutes for children less than 7 years old, though we sometimes do offer 45-minute or hour-long piano lessons to young children who have above-average attention spans.
  • Piano lesson times are scheduled around your availability. We can accommodate piano lessons at a variety of times during the day or evening, on any day of the week.
  • You are not required to commit to any number of piano lessons with us, and you can stop your piano lessons at any time with 5 working days' notice.
  • It is easy to cancel lessons when you are away on holidays, or have other scheduled commitments. As long as you give us 5 working days' notice, you will never be asked to pay for a cancelled piano lesson.
  • If something comes up, or if you are ill and cannot attend your piano lesson as planned, no problem! Just let us know at least 24 hours before your piano lesson*, and we can reschedule your piano lesson to a different day and time that same week, or make up the missed piano lesson by doing a few longer piano lessons in subsequent weeks.
  • There are, on occasion, incidences where our piano students must cancel at the last minute. We recognise that these cancellations are often due to circumstances beyond their control, but to be fair to our piano teachers’ time we are unable to make up piano lessons cancelled without suitable notice.
  • Payments for piano lessons are made in advance, usually online by debit/credit card, and we send out your invoices by e-mail once per calendar month. Fees for lessons cancelled with suitable notice are credited to your next invoice, or refunded to you.
  • Your very first payment is for one piano lesson only. All of our new piano students start off with one trial piano lesson, to meet their piano teacher and get a sense of their piano teacher’s personality and approach to piano lessons before deciding whether to continue on a regular basis.
  • Before confirming your trial piano lesson booking, we will ask you to register with our school by submitting some contact details as well as reading and agreeing to our policies on payments, cancellations, and other important details.

*For piano lessons taking place at our third-party teaching studio locations we require 3 working days' notice to reschedule piano lessons, to allow enough time for us to cancel your piano studio booking.

Piano Teachers Connect student piano recitals

Piano Teachers Connect student recitals provide opportunities for our piano students to perform in a friendly, low-pressure environment, meet other piano students and piano teachers, share ideas and stories, and hear each other play.

Our piano students learn and play a wide variety of styles - from classical to pop/rock to jazz - and at all levels from beginner to advanced. Taking part in the student piano recitals offers the chance to gain inspiration, fresh perspective, and new ideas for music-making. It's also a celebration of music and the piano, and of our accomplishments.

Congratulations to all of our piano students and piano teachers who performed at this year's Piano Teachers Connect student recitals!
